Sudanese woman reportedly sentenced to death by stoning for adultery

May 17, 2012 (KHARTOUM) – A court in the Sudanese capital Khartoum has sentenced an unidentified woman to be executed by stoning for committing the “crime of fornication” under Islamic Shariah laws, local newspapers reported on Wednesday.

The sentence was handed down on 14 May by Judge Sami Ibrahim Shabo who presides over the general criminal court in Um Bada area, in the suburbs of Khartoum’s twin-city of Omdurman.

According to the privately-owned daily newspaper Al-Ahram al-Yawm, the court issued the sentence after the defendant refused to “retract her earlier confessions” that the child she gave birth to is from a man other than her husband.

اصدرت المحكمة الجنائية بأمبدة حكما بالرجم حتى الموت على سيدة متهمة بانها على علاقة غير شرعية مع رجل وانجابها طفلاً نتيجة هذه العلاقة ، فيما برأت المحكمة الرجل المتهم في نفس القضية ، وذلك يوم الاحد 13 مايو .

ورأت المحكمة رفع الحكم للمحكمة العليا للتأييد.

وأدانت حركة (التغيير الآن) في بيان 16 مايو الحكم باعتباره وحشياً ويستند على قاعدة فقهية مختلف عليها ، وطالبت السلطات القضائية في الخرطوم ( بسرعة التدخل لايقاف تنفيذه لما فيه من وحشية بالغة و انتهاك شنيع لروح الانسانية و التمدن و تغول على المبادئ العدلية البسيطة التي تدين طرفاً واحداً في فعل يستلزم بالضرورة اثنين لوقوعه ، و كما يعكس هذا الحكم تمييزاً صارخاً ضد المرأة و امتهان لحقوقها بهذه الادانة المنفردة غير المقبولة لا عقلاً و لا منطقاً ولا ضميراً لأي انسان صاحب ضمير حي و روح تتطلع الي احقاق الحق و تنفيذ العدالة).

Bashir says Sudan will adopt Islamic constitution البشير: السودان سيتبني دستور إسلامي

KHARTOUM (Reuters) - Sudan will go ahead with plans to adopt an entirely Islamic constitution and strengthen Islamic law, President Omar Hassan al-Bashir said on Wednesday, three months after its former civil war enemy South Sudan became independent.

Juba seceded on July 9 after a referendum agreed under a 2005 peace deal that ended decades of civil war between the mainly Muslim north and the South where most follow Christian and traditional beliefs.
